Royal Academy of Arts - Aware, Art Fashion Identity

the royal academy of arts is now presenting this exhibition at the 6 Burlington Gardens near the Burlington Arcade shopping area. went the other day to have a look, the exhibition is not so big itself but have some interesting works there, like pieces by Hussein Chalayan, Alexander McQueen...etc.

it theme is to examine how artists and designers use clothing as a mechanism to communicate and reveal elements of our identity. The exhibition includes work by 30 leading international practitioners.
by Susie MacMurray - made by leather and adamantine, dressmaker's pins
(the whole piece is made out of dressmaker's pins, really beautiful!)

by Yohji Yamamoto - made with plywood

by Helen Storey - these dresses form part of Storey research into biodegradable materials:
the enzyme-based textile will dissolve over time as it comes into contact with water.

by Sharif Waked (one of my favorite pieces from the exhibition) -
Palestinian artist Sharif Waked's work confronts the difficulties faced by his people and the complexities of the political situation in the Middle East. in this exhibition, he presents these video works, clothes designed to reveal areas of flesh are seen alongside images of Palestinian men being subjected to body searches at Israeli checkpoints

by Hussein Chalayan -‘Son’ of Sonzai Suru, 2010

by Alicia Framis - Framis invited sixteen fashion designers to make dresses inspired by the Chinese flag.

by Yinka Shonibare MBE - Little Rich Girls, 2010
